18th Century Children's Clothing For Museum, Theater, Re-enactment, Rendezvous, Trade Fairs & Rifle Frolics.

We produce quality period clothing at reasonable prices. We appreciate your business!

2012 Update! 18th Century children's clothing now available

This past summer Shelly Bender, owner of Irish Maid children's clothing, announced that regretfully she was closing her business. Shelly had developed a full line of period correct clothing for infants to teens, and was well known for the quality of her work. Pursuant to a mutual agreement, we are delighted to announce that we have purchased her remaining inventory, and using her tried and tested patterns, will be adding a full line of children's clothing to Ft. Downing effective immediately. Additionally, we will continue her “trade in” policy on children's clothing. Call us for more information!

If this is your first visit to our site, Welcome! We hope you will like what you see and put us in your "Favorites" folder. For those of you who are returning to our site, Thank You! As you know 2011 was a hard year for us health wise, but we expect 2012 to be much better. . WE APPRECIATE YOUR PATIENCE AND YOUR CONTINUED PATRONAGE!

Even though we realize that re-enactment clothing is a luxury and not a necessity, regretfully, in 2012 we will have to implement some in price increases to offset the dramatic rise in cost of raw materials. We still believe our prices are fair and in line with others in our industry and that the quality of our products is equal to, or well above, the industry standards.

About Us

Ft. Downing Trading Co. is a home based historical clothing business for men and women, and now children! We do our own sewing using authentic patterns of 18th Century life, with special emphasis to the French & Indian War and the Revolutionary War time periods.

We take great pride in our work and take extra steps to assure that we turn out a quality garment. Our fabrics are selected to reflect period-correct styles and colors, and ALL fabrics are prewashed and dryed using the hottest settings possible. This insures you that your garment will not shrink the first time you laundry it. We double and triple stitch the stress points on all of our clothing.

Although we do maintain a basic stock supply, each order is handled individually. When you place an order with us, we attempt to customize it to your own specific needs and measurements. The care we take with your garment makes each piece a one-of-a-kind article. The time it takes to complete your order depends on the complexity of the garment and our backlog of orders.

Our goal is a satisfied customer. So, if you are not completely satisfied with the quality or fit, we want to know, and you may return it if not soiled or damaged for a replacement or a full refund.

MAY WE SEW FOR YOU?
